A Sanctuary in the Tropics

Day 1

Botanic Garden

Start your day with a visit to the sprawling Singapore Botanic Gardens. Although it is located in the heart of the city, this oasis of greenery will transport you far from the city’s busy streets. Enjoy a traditional hawker-style breakfast at the on-site Taman Serasi Food Garden, where you can tuck into freshly prepared egg prata, a flaky Indian flatbread served with a flavourful curry dip.

You can spend the rest of the morning wandering throughout the gardens along pathways lined towering trees, including numerous rare fruit and nut trees—some of which were around long before Sir Stamford Raffles first set foot in Singapore! The gazebo overlooking Swan Lake in the middle of the park is a nice spot to pause and spend a quiet moment. Be sure to drop by the National Orchid Garden, which houses the world’s largest collection of orchids. With about 1,000 species of orchid and 2,000 hybrids, it is a sight not to be missed. As you stroll among flowerbeds bursting with colour you’ll have a chance to spot some of the hybrids named after prominent people, such as a bluish-purple orchid named after Kofi Annan and a delicate white-and-pink orchid named after Princess Diana.

If your feet are worn out from exploring the Botanic Gardens, make you way to tranquil Aramsa Spa, set amid the lush greenery of Bishan Park. A Chinese herbal foot soak will leave your toes wriggling with joy, or you can opt for a relaxing massage in a private room with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking your own personal garden. After your treatment, a few minutes beneath the rejuvenating outdoor rain shower will have you refreshed and ready to enjoy the rest of your day.

You can kick-start your afternoon by soaring above the treetops with an adrenaline-pumping canopy tour. Take the flight of your life as your soar along a zipline suspended 75 metres above sea level at Mega Zip Adventure Park, which is tucked atop Imbiah Hill on Sentosa Island. The 450-metre-long wire ride offers panoramic views of the Malacca Straits as you zoom across the top of the jungle and descend to the white sands of Siloso Beach.

After a busy day enjoying the outdoors, reward yourself with an indulgent meal of French cuisine at The Cliff. Perched atop a cliff on Sentosa overlooking the South China Sea, this chic restaurant is one of Singapore’s best-kept dining secrets. Take in the sunset and enjoy the cool of the evening while chefs prepare a contemporary seafood meal just for you. Your biggest challenge will be choosing from amongst signature dishes such as pan-roasted black cod and freshly shucked oysters.

Top off your evening with a leisurely stroll on the Southern Ridges, a chain of parks stretching from the southern end of Singapore across the island’s western half. Connected by a network of pathways and bridges, the Southern Ridges offer impressive views of passing ocean liners and cruise ships in the distance. You can make your way to Mount Faber Park for a good vantage point from which to take in the city’s twinkling lights as dusk falls. Finally, end your excursion at Henderson Waves, which bursts out from amongst the treetops at a towering 36 metres to carry you across the busy roads far below. This distinctive wave-like pedestrian bridge is brilliantly illuminated at night with attractive LED lights, marking a glowing end to your day.
